One window per machine, a fork from any message

Release z.8: every remote host gets its own window, and a session can be forked in place or from any earlier message.

Before 1.0, Splitkick shipped as JeanZ, a fork of Jean. This post is about JeanZ z.8.

One window per remote host

Upstream Jean shows remote hosts inside one window. z.8 opens each remote instance in its own window with the host’s name in the title. Two Macs, two windows, ⌘-Tab between them. The project page got the same Home-style overview as the start view.

Fork from any message

A conversation branches. You want to try a second approach without losing the first. z.8 lets you fork a session in place, or from any earlier message, into a new session. Both keep the same context up to the fork, and each goes its own way after it. z.17 later allowed forking while a turn is still running.

Also in z.8

  • Two new MCP queries so agents can answer cross-project questions in one call.
  • Escape no longer closes a session.
  • Several fork-state bugs; z.9 the same day fixed a cancelled fork writing into the original.
